Italy: The Bargello & Other Things

The Bargello is a former prison which is now an art museum, featuring rooms of statues and Catholic artifacts.

We have gone to several concerts for our music class, but none so interesting as our night with John Cage.

Before the concert started we watched shoes stomping and cotton balls bouncing.

I was very excited to go to Pallazo Strozzi to see the Americans in Firenze exhibit featuring the American Impressionists. It is so different than anything at any of the other museums and it was refreshing after all of the religious artwork we’ve been looking at.

They had an American Cafe too.

The Brancacci Chapel

(Can you see where Masaccio’s arm has been taken out by another artist?  It was considered too presumptuous to be touching St. Peter’s robes).

Our final (and my favorite) concert at Santo Stefano al Ponte (music from Fellini films).

  1. YOu know just the sheer volume of artwork and history is almost overwhelming…I can see how the natives become almost numb to it!
